Dorothy Sumner Strand passed away peacefully on August 2, 2015 at the age of 97. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She will be greatly missed. Dotsy was born July 11th, 1918 to Lt. Col and Mrs. Edwin M. Sumner. She happily spent her growing up years as an Army Brat. She met her husband Col. Bill Strand at Ft. Riley, Kansas when he arrived there on his first assignment as a West Point graduate. They were married for 70 years. She loved traveling, gardening, taking care of her family, and being a military wife. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Sally Julihn. She is survived by daughter Kristin Meyer, grandchildren: Melissa Meyer (Steven), Lauren Meyer (Roman), and Justin Meyer, great grandchildren: Ashley, Sheridan, Kristin, Brendan, Sebastein and Mark. She will be laid to rest in West Point Cemetery beside her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WreathsAcrossAmerica.org.
