MADELINE ISABELLE CHAURET EAGER


 
 
Madeline Isabelle (Chauret) Eager, 94, died peacefully in her sleep from natural causes at her Schertz home on Monday, September 14, 2015.
Madeline is survived by her older sister Blanche Schoof of Bay City, MI; her ex-husband Col. Colin Chauret of San Antonio; her daughters Sharon (Boyd) Nix of Williamsburg, VA; Margo (Karl) Franz of Baltimore; Debra Chauret Aishman of Wimberley; Maria (Arthur) Martinez of Tucson; Kateri Chauret and Mary (Beaux) Chauret, both of San Antonio; former daughter-in-law Susan Chauret of San Antonio; sons Keith (Sheila Young) Chauret; Michael Chauret; Mark (Patrice) Chauret, all of San Antonio; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and caregiver Margaret Evans. 
Madeline was preceded in death by her beloved parents and eleven siblings.  Debra (1968), Keith (1969) and Sheila Young Chauret (1969), Mike (1972), and Mark (1973) all graduated from Randolph High School. Maria, Kateri, and Mary all attended the Randolph ISD.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm, Sunday, September 20 during visitation (Holy Rosary recitation at 6pm) at the Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, TX 78154.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1065 E. Live Oak Rd, Schertz, TX 78154, at 10am, Monday, September 21. Flowers may be sent to Schertz Funeral Home.

DOROTHY STRAND - Kristin Strand ('64) Meyer's Mom

 
July 11, 1918 - August 2, 2015

Dorothy Sumner Strand passed away peacefully on August 2, 2015 at the age of 97. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She will be greatly missed. Dotsy was born July 11th, 1918 to Lt. Col and Mrs. Edwin M. Sumner. She happily spent her growing up years as an Army Brat. She met her husband Col. Bill Strand at Ft. Riley, Kansas when he arrived there on his first assignment as a West Point graduate. They were married for 70 years. She loved traveling, gardening, taking care of her family, and being a military wife. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Sally Julihn. She is survived by daughter Kristin Meyer, grandchildren: Melissa Meyer (Steven), Lauren Meyer (Roman), and Justin Meyer, great grandchildren: Ashley, Sheridan, Kristin, Brendan, Sebastein and Mark. Lt. Col. Donald J. Pierini, USAF (Ret.)

PIERINI, USAF (Ret.), Lt Col Donald J.





Lt Col Donald J. Pierini, USAF (Ret.) passed away on June 19, 2015 at the age of 91. His military career spanned 33 years.

At 18 he joined the Army Air Corps during World War II. After training, he was assigned to the 4th Fighter Group, 8th Air Force in Debden, England, as a P-51 Mustang pilot. He flew 72 missions (318 Combat Flying Hours). He was promoted from Flight Officer to Captain by the age of 21. In Suwon, Korea he was assigned to the 319th Fighter Interceptor Squadron where, flying the F94-B, he patrolled the DMZ and sat alert as well. In Nha Trang, Vietnam he was the Commander of the Airlift Control of the 834th Air Division during the Tet Offensive.

Other tours of duty included Moody AFB, Georgia as the F-86, F-89 and F-94 Combat Training Squadron Commander, Maxwell AFB, Alabama Command and Staff College, Saskatoon, Canada as Officer-in-Command of Instrument Checks for the RCAF, Randolph AFB, Texas as Assistant Wing Operations Officer, Torrejon AFB, Madrid, Spain as Chief of Operational Wing Plans, and Bergstrom AFB, Texas as Chief of Contingency War Plans with the 7th Air Force. He retired in 1975. He logged almost 5,000 flight hours, was rated in 27 different aircraft, and was a Command Pilot as well as a licensed Commercial Pilot.

His medals and awards included most notably the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star and the Air Medal with seven oak leaf clusters. He was a member of the Mach Buster's Club and Caterpillar Club.

Lt Col Pierini graduated from The University of Texas with a degree in Business Administration. He was an avid cyclist. Affectionately called the "Old Man," his "Follow the Old Man" cycling team was the largest new team in the 2003 MS150 ride from Houston to Austin. The following year he rode in his twelfth consecutive and final MS 150 ride at age 80.

A Rosary Service will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Austin, Texas on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 7:15 pm, followed by a Funeral Mass on Thursday, July 2, 2015, at 10:00 am. His interment, with full honors, will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C.

REGINALD "REGGIE") CLAAR, Class of '67

REGGIE CLAAR, Class of '67, passed away June 12, 2015 here in Charlottesville.   His passing was extremely sudden and unexpected and there was no warning.  His daughter, Stephanie, and I will try to plan a gathering later in the summer.  I do know how much Reggie enjoyed visiting with all you when he was there for the reunion and I enjoyed his describing the photos and identifying the people for me.  I would appreciate your passing the information on to Reggie’s classmates and friends.  I imagine Sue will be here in the fall for  the Crozet Arts Festival, as usual.  Reggie and I often attended the show.   I will plan to go in October and hope to see her.    Thank you,    Anne

Reginald G. Claar, 66, of Lake Monticello, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2015. Reggie was the son of Jean Claar and the late Gene Claar. Survivors are his wife, Anne Claar; his daughter, Stephanie Campbell; and his granddaughter, Emma Campbell who will always remember her "Pap" building Tinker Hollow in the back yard. Reggie would request no donations. Please remember him at your next BBQ or tailgate — Hook 'em Horns !A gathering to "roast" Reggie will be planned at a future date. Reggie, you are one of the good guys and will be missed and never forgotten !

MARTIN BICE, Class of '64



Edward Martin Bice, Jr. of Universal City, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas. Edward was born November 16, 1945 to Edward M. Bice, Sr. and Edna Mary Killingbeck in Batley, West Yorkshire, England.

Edward honorably served in the Unites States Air Force. Edward married Janet E. Bice, his loving wife of 14 years, on February 6, 2002 in San Antonio, Texas.

Edward is preceded in death by his mother, Edna Bice, who passed away on February 12, 2006.

He is survived by his father, Edward M. Bice, Sr. of Universal City, Texas, his wife Janet E. Bice, and by his four children, daughter, Christine Bice of Gruene, Texas, daughter Tina Mendiola of Converse, Texas, daughter Karen Pailing of Leeds, UK and son Lee Pailing of Leeds, UK. Edward is also survived by his brothers, Michael N. Bice of New Braunfels, Texas, Thomas A. Bice of Houston, Texas, and Robert A. Bice of Universal City, Texas, and sisters, Lesley A . Lanclos of The Woodlands, Texas, Tracey E. Lewis of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Stephanie M. Bice of Houston, Texas.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 1:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, Texas.

DON W. Don W. Amon of Universal City passed away at the age of 95 on Thursday, June 5, 2015.Born in Woodland, Pennsylvania on July 10, 1919, he was the son of John W. and Zanna Amon. He attended high school in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. After graduation, he joined the Army Air Corps and served our country during World War II in the Pacific. He retired from the Air Force after 31 years of service at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.After retiring from the Air Force, he started his second career as a real estate broker and sold many of the new homes in Coronado Village, where he lived until his death.He belonged to the Randolph Air Force Base church family and attended Protestant services at the base Chapel I. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Amon, and brother, Bruce Amon, daughter Donna Gates, and granddaughter Donalda Gates.He is survived by children Harry Amon and wife Penny; Philip Amon and wife Iris; and Debra Amon. Other survivors include grandchildren Kimberly Vinton and husband Xavier; Bailey Rivera and husband Dominic; and Robert Bredvad. He will be missed by his great grandchildren Zenaida, Vesperrae, Grace, Summer, and Bobbie, and his great-great grandchildren Daya and Trevor.Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 10, from 5:30pm to 9:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home in Universal City. Services for Mr. Amon will be on Thursday, June 11 at 12:30pm, also at Colonial Funeral Home, followed by internment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Lt. Colonel (ret.) Michael John Norton - Class of '63



October 1, 1946 - March 20, 2015

Lt. Colonel (ret.) Michael John Norton passed away peacefully at home on March 20th after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. The cancer, while placing limits on his physical body, in no way limited his passion for life and his family. Mike placed spending time with them as his highest priority.

Mike had many passions ranging from the Spurs, to whom he was fanatically devoted, to reading literature of all genres. He loved theater, music, and the arts. For the past fifteen years Mike volunteered at the Majestic Theater, allowing him to indulge his love of theater and music while also helping others. His taste in music was eclectic, ranging from Pink Floyd to classical. His wit and comedic timing was renowned as was his keen intellect. Mike was an avid traveler. With his family, he traveled widely throughout the world. His favorite trips included those to Ireland and North Africa. As a military officer, he was fortunate to have tours to England, Germany, Korea, and Thailand, and he spent ten years in overseas assignments. He immersed himself in the culture, history, and architecture of each country in which he was stationed. Following his military service, Mike began a second career in education.

He worked as a special education teacher and then as a transition coordinator. In this role, he helped both students and other educators prepare students as they transitioned into post secondary activities.

Mike is survived by his adoring wife, Kay; his son, Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Stacey; his beloved grandchildren, Owen and Ethan; his brother, Richard and sister-in-law Kathy; and his sisters, Susan and Elizabeth. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Bill DeVore and wife Barbara; brother-in-law, Stewart DeVore and wife Brenda; and sister-in-law, Leslie DeVore, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

MEMORIAL SERVICE FRIDAY, MARCH 27, 20151:30 P.M. PORTER LORING NORTH CHAPEL Chaplain Phil Johnson will officiate. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Doris Elizabeth Burrows King - Susan King Spencer's ('66) mom

February 27, 1916 – February 13, 2015

Doris was born in Junction, TX to Emma Chenault Burrows and Jake Thomas Burrows on February 27, 1916.  When Doris was six months old they moved to San Antonio, TX where she graduated from Brackenridge HS in 1933 and continued her education earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from University of San Antonio, now Trinity University. 
 
Christmas night 1935 Doris ( known to many as Dody) met the love of her life, William Madison King, Jr and seven years later they were wed on Christmas afternoon, 1942.  Bill King was a Lieutenant in the then Army Air Corps and thus began a wonderful military life of traveling and living many places in the world.  During the next 31 years they lived in England, Alabama, Japan, Germany and various locations in Texas. Besides being actively involved with military wives organizations, she was foremost a loving wife and mother. Doris often taught in Department of Defense Elementary schools at many of the Air Force Bases where she lived. 

In 1973 Bill and Dody retired to begin a very active life in New Braunfels, TX. Doris was an active member and head of the Altar Guild, the Episcopal Church Women, and Daughters of the King at St. John’s Episcopal Church for over 30 years. She was also very involved with The Daughters of the Nile, greatly supporting The Shriners Hospitals for Children, Comal Garden Club, The Republican Women, The Heritage Society and various other civic organizations in New Braunfels.  She and her beloved Bill were married for 50 years.  Bill passed into eternal life on February 17, 1993.
 
In 2008 Doris moved to Colorado Springs and joined St. George’s Anglican Church.  She continued to live a happy and productive life and especially enjoyed getting to know her great-grandson, Christopher, who brought such joy and brightness into her life!  He will miss his “Great-GrandDody” as will the rest of her family, but we will never forget this great Texas lady who brought love and joy to everyone she knew.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Doris was preceded in death by her sister Lila Ameta Burrows Lamon, and her brother Edgar Allen Burrows. She is survived by her daughter Karen King (Austin, TX), daughter Susan (James) Spencer (Colorado Springs, CO), granddaughter Stephanie (Stephen) Saunders (Parker, CO), grandson Ryan Spencer (Brooklyn, NY), great-grandson Christopher Saunders (Parker, Co), niece Emily Palmer (Austin, TX), and great nieces and nephews.
Doris left life on earth with the grace and the peace with which she lived. She will be greatly missed by her family until we meet again.
 
Memorial Service: 10:00 am, February 21, 2015 at St. George’s Anglican Church, Colorado Springs, CO.
Inurnment: 11:00 am, March 6, 2015 at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park, New Braunfels, TX.

CYNTHIA AKI HEATH - Class of '66

Cynthia A. Heath, 65, of Live Oak, Texas, passed away on March 13, 2014. Cyndi as she was known passed away peacefully with her loving husband, Donald Heath and family members present. Cyndi was born in Hawaii on April 2, 1948. She worked for the Air Force Civil Service for 30 years. After her retirement from Civil Service, Cyndi pursued a teaching career and taught Special Education at Ed Franz Elementary and second grade at the Carver Academy. Cyndi was preceded in death by her son, Steven H. Heath, her mother Ruth A. Aki and her father Joseph H. Aki. Cyndi is survived by her loving husband Donald Heath, her brother Ron Aki and wife Martha of Houston, Texas, nephews Randall Aki of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Russell Aki and wife Emily of East Bernard, Texas and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins who live in Texas, Washington and Hawaii. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 5pm to 8pm at Colonial Funeral Home in Universal City, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 12:30 pm at Colonial Funeral Home with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:45 pm. The family of Cyndi Heath wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Kapoor and the loving and caring staff at Northeast Methodist Hospital.

ZEE (Zelema) TURNIPSEED (Carol Turnipseed Haberle's Mom)

The Passing of Mrs. Turnipseed has me feeling so sad. My mom and dad and the Turnipseeds lived out their last years at the Air Force Village One in San Antonio.  I've know the Turnipseeds all my life but really got to know who they were when I would visit with my mom and dad at AFV-I. Col. Turnipseed was a teriffic guy and he would always greet me with "Hey doll, how's the old man?"  Zee was so sweet and didn't complain about anything and man could she grow plants!  Her Christmas cactus was the envy of the whole complex and the last time I saw it it was about 3 feet wide (well that might be an exaggeration but it was huge and beautiful).  Zee and my mom were great friends and partners in crime...  I got to know several of their group of friends who lived there at AFV-I over the 10 years my parents lived there and even met the parents of a life long friend of mine who had coincidentally moved there after my parents did.  Zee is the last of their group of close friends. Zee even took over the exercise class that my dad lead after his death.   I will remember each of them fondly for the rest of my life.  God Bless you Zee Turnipseed... You made a difference.

Zelema Turnipseed, 96, of San Antonio, Texas died January 13, 2015 peacefully in her home with family and friends. Zee was born April 10, 1918 in Bangor, Alabama to Ernest and Hester (Smith) Rice. She graduated from Mt. Olive High School in Mt. Olive, Alabama and attended the University of Alabama. She was the chief telephone operator at Ft. McClellan, Alabama when she met her husband to be in 1941. They were married after the war in 1945 and spent more than 66 love filled years together. Very active in her church, Zee always took an interest in volunteering. From Girl Scouts and school to family services, her life was about serving other people and family, not herself. She and her husband helped start one of first fire departments on Lake Travis and led exercise classes up until a few months before her death. She loved gardening and working in her yard but her greatest pride and source of joy was always family. She taught us what love and caring should be about and her constant smile remains in the hearts of all the people her life touched. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Haberle of Jacksonville, Texas and her husband David; son, Larry Turnipseed of Lakeway, Texas and his wife, Crystal; grandchildren, May Ann Burnett, Dobbs Ferry, New York, Fred Haberle, Waco, Texas, Joshua Stark, Pflugerville, Texas and Jared Turnipseed, Austin, Texas; great granddaughters, Evie Burnett, Dylan and Holly Haberle and brother, Harley Rice of Oneonta, Alabama and his wife, Sno. She is preceded in death by her devoted and loving Husband, Col Lawrence (Jack) L. Turnipseed, Jr. USAF (Ret); parents, three sisters and one brother. She loved the beauty of God's world around her and was able to grow things with such incredible ease. We know she would enjoy and appreciate your thoughtful gift of flowers but we also know her last wish would be to help other people, one more time. Jay Jennings Towner, 69, of Carrollton, Texas passed away November 26, 2014. He was born on October 9, 1945 in Boston, Massachusetts to Johnny Jay Martin and Loretta Faye Jennings. He was adopted by Loretta's husband Melvin Towner in 1949. He married Tricia Sutton in Carrollton, Texas on December 1, 1989. They were married for 24 years. They would have celebrated their 25 Anniversary on December 1st of this year. He was a long time Carrollton resident.

He is survived by his wife Tricia and his sons, Stephen Towner of Reno, Nevada and David Towner of Coppell, Texas. His grandchildren Alec, Alexus, Austin, and Christyn Towner. His brothers Mike (Mary ) Towner, Steve (Anne) Towner, sisters-in-law Rebecca (Jim) Patterson, Roberta (Dick) Stent, Brothers-in-law Scott (Kathy) Sutton, Mark (Robin) Sutton. Nephews Donny, Rusty, and Dylan Towner, nieces Courtney Sawyer, Shawna, and Faye Towner. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Melody Martin.

Jay lived in Germany, France, Illinois, Texas, and Thailand during his school years while his father was in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from Randolph High School on Randolph AFB, Texas in 1963. He went on to Southwest Texas State University graduating in 1969 with a degree in Physical Education and History. Jay coached JV in Robstown and Pearland, Texas before he moved to Lewisville, Texas. He went to work for Allstate Insurance in 1974. He won many achievement awards during his 40 year career at Allstate.

Jay was always very devoted to his family and friends. He was very involved in his children's and grandchildren's lives. He often went to band concerts, games, and many other events in their lives. Jay was avid football fan starting in high school where he was co- captain of the football team. He lettered in football at Randolph High. He went to play football when he attended Southwest Texas State. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and traveling through Texas going to antique store picking up special trinkets for the grandchildren.
