Dorothy (Dot) I. Roberts of Universal City, Texas passed away peacefully in her home on January 18, 2023. She was 103 years old and was surrounded by friends and family on that day. Dot was born on April 5, 1919 in San Antonio outside Fort Sam Houston to a military family. She graduated from Brackenridge High School and held jobs such as a car hop, telephone operator, pharmacy packer, and bookkeeper.

In 1939, she married Gene Roberts whom she had known since she was twelve years old. They were married for 55 years before his passing. In those years they moved from San Antonio to Ohio before Gene went overseas to the Pacific during WWII. Afterwards in was Kelly in San Antonio; Fort Worth; Wheelus in Tripoli, Libya; Lackland; Edwards in the Mojave Desert and finally Randolph.

Dot was always busy volunteering at different places such as the Thrift Shop, NCO Wives Club, elementary school, Girl Scouts, and the library. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, knitting, needlepoint and her favorite thing, reading.

In Universal City, she was part of a group of individuals that wanted a library in the city. They succeeded when the city provided a surplus building. Years later they repeated their success when the city constructed a new library.

Her other passion was Wreaths Across America. This organization provides wreaths to the National Cemeteries all over the United States. She spent hours taking orders by phone, set up a tent in front of Wal-Mart and utilized other venues to spread the word about the wreaths. There is no telling over the years how many graves received a wreath or how much in donations was received. A friend remarked that when Dot entered heaven there was a line of soldiers ready to salute her.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, siblings, and other family members. William A. Mitchell, father; Minnie L. Kuentz, mother; Grace (Buford) Blaylock, sister and brother in law; Earl E. Roberts, brother in law; William J. Mithcell, brother; nieces Judy and Linda; and husband of 55 years, Eugene M. Roberts. All are buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Dot is survived by her daughter, Jeanne (Steven) Stinson; grandsons, Kyle (Katrina) Scott; Kelly (Sharron) Scott; Michael Stinson (Jenifier Walls); Great grandchildren, Dylan Scott, Seth Scott, Dominic Walls, Jazmyn Stinson; and niece Brenda (Bob) Hale.

At Universal City United Methodist Church, she served on the finance, the Foundation and staff, pastor, parish relations committees. She was involved in establishing homeroom groups, Supper of 8, and craft projects. She also set up day trips for the congregation such as Painted Churched, Wildflower Seed Farm, plays at the Majestic, Main Street Bethlehem, and Brenham (Blue Bell).

The family would like to thank the members of the Martinez homeroom for all their assistance and support. A special thank you to the caregivers who looked after Dot and her needs.

A viewing will be held Monday, February 6th at Colonial Funeral Home in Universal City, TX from 5 - 8PM.

A church service will be held Tuesday, February 7th at Universal City United Methodist Church, 90 Winn, Universal City, TX beginning at 10:00 am

A committal service for Dorothy will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209.

Jim Dieterich, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on January 11, 2023.

Jim was born in Newport News, Virginia, the son of Virgil and Freda Dieterich. Virgil was an Air Force officer, and as a military dependent, Jim spent his childhood traveling with his family to points around the world, including England, Germany, France, North Carolina, Alabama and finally San Antonio, Texas, where his father retired in 1965. Jim attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1970 with a degree in aerospace engineering.

After graduating from college, Jim served in the US Air Force, stationed in Great Falls, Montana, where he learned to love the Rocky Mountain West. Jim was honorably discharged from the Air Force in August, 1972, and moved to Denver, where he went to work for Samsonite Corporation and started law school. In 1976, Jim obtained his law degree from the University of Denver and began practicing law at White & Steele, PC, where he worked for 42 years, including 10 years as president of the firm. Jim retired from the practice of law in 2018.

Jim is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carole, who lives in Denver, his sons, Todd (Amy) and Tyler (Erica), and three grandchildren, John, William and Francesca, and his sister Nancy Moseley (Ford) of Williamsburg, Virginia.

Joyce Rae (Molick) Adkins, 74, of Perkasie, PA, passed away early Thanksgiving morning, November 24, 2022, at Pennsburg Manor after a long battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Born February 11, 1948, in Hibbing, MN, she was the daughter of the late Roy J. and Lois (Warden) Molick.

Joyce worked as a claims adjuster in the insurance industry for many years. She had been employed with Aetna and Transamerica. She also earned her real estate license and stockbroker’s license. Her hobbies included travel, reading, arts and crafts, photography, and gardening.

Surviving is a son, Jeffrey L. Adkins and his wife, Nicole C., of Schwenksville, PA; and a grandson, Christopher J. Adkins.

Gary Lee Erickson, age 76, passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Ana Maria, by his side at their Kettle Falls, Washington home on October 28, 2022. Gary was born on July 13, 1946 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Norman and Betty Lou (Terry) Erickson. Raised in a military family, Gary spent much of his early childhood frequently moving around the country and the world. At age 10, the family would relocate to England, spending several years there before being relocated to the Philippines. Gary's family would return stateside, settling down in San Antonio, Texas. This is what Gary would come to know as his hometown, where he made many of his lifelong childhood friends, and where he would go on to graduate from Randolph High School. Following graduation, Gary would find himself staying in California with an aunt and uncle while attending college and working as a bartender, as well as serving as a reservist with the U.S. Marines. In 1966, Gary was assigned to a period of active duty, and following his tour of service, he returned to the reserves, and continued his education. In the late 1970's, Gary would receive a job offer from Marin County to work as a deputy sheriff, later advancing his career to coroner investigator. It was here, in 1980, that he would meet the love of his life, Ana Maria Comstock, who had just begun a career with the sheriff's office as well. The two would start dating, and in 1983, Gary and Ana Maria would be joined in marriage. While their marriage would end in 1991, Gary and Ana Maria would remain close friends for many years after, spending many fishing and camping trips together. Gary would meet Susan McLean in 1998, and the two were wed in 2003. After nearly 30 years of service with the County of Marin, Gary would retire, and he and Susan would relocate to Kettle Falls, Washington. Here, with his new found free time, Gary quickly became involved with various organizations throughout Stevens County, including the Colville Valley Animal Sanctuary, Veterans Stand Down, Tractor Club, among several others. Gary and Susan's union would not last, however, the two would remain friends. Following his cancer diagnosis in 2018, he would reach back out to Ana Maria, and the two would reconnect. As they began conversing, both realized it felt as if no time had passed since they last spoke. Ana Maria would relocate to Kettle Falls from California in 2020, and in February of 2021, the two were reunited in marriage. The two would spend the next two years fishing, enjoying target practice, exploring the sights Eastern Washington had to offer, visiting with their son, Steven, and his family, and enjoying the 40-acre property he took such great pride in developing and maintaining. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Betty Lou Erickson. He is survived by his loving wife, Ana Maria Erickson; a son, Steven (Jennifer) Erickson; four grandchildren, Cole, Riley, Aiden and Logan; his cousin, Mike Erickson, and his ex-wife, Susan (McLean) Erickson. Mrs. Walker, Counselor - Randolph High School (Lynette Weaver Walker Allen)

Lynette Weaver Walker Allen passed away one month shy of her 101 birthday. Known as an independent adventurist, she was beloved by hundreds of former students, friends, and family. Born August 14, 1921, the third of five children in the Lynn Grove, Texas home of Roy S. Weaver and Lela Weaver, she outlived all her siblings. She graduated from Navasota High School and Southwestern University with a Spanish major. Soon after graduation, she married Elton Wilson Walker of Livingston, Texas with whom she had two sons, John and Cornel.

When that marriage ended in 1954, she and her two boys moved to Lufkin, Texas. She commuted to Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas earning a MA in counseling while teaching 4^th-grade students, many of whom continued to love and admire her for decades. Those students continued to send her flowers, treasured books, and loving letters preceding her death.

In 1962 she moved to Universal City, Texas to accept a counseling position at Randolph High School. As with her Lufkin students, she was loved by hundreds many of whom attributed their success following their high school graduation to her wise and caring counsel, and who continued to send her flowers and letters for decades.

Following retirement, she moved to San Antonio, Texas, and, during summers, served as a hostess at the YMCA of the Rockies at Estes Park, Colorado. At age 83 she married Craig Allen with whom she spent many happy years before his death. She continued to live in San Antonio for several months before moving to Wilmington, North Carolina to be close to her grandson Brad Walker and his family who provided warm and loving care for her. On her 100^th birthday, she rode up and down the streets of Wilmington in the sidecar of Brad’s motorcycle. Six months later her health began to decline.

A lifelong learner, Lynette loved adventure and anything new. In all things cultural she reigned supreme: classical music, opera, the visual arts, literature, and etiquette. And yet her worldliness failed to dampen her innocence. Throughout her life, she remained as bright-beamed as a child, as frisky as a filly. She brightened every room she entered. She was a superb listener who showed sincere concern and warmth for others. Her affability, geniality, and vivacity earned her hundreds of lifelong friends.

Lynette is survived by her son, John Walker and daughter-in-law Vicki Walker of Denver, NC; granddaughter Wende Whitus, husband Greg, and two great-granddaughters, Lori and Lindsey Whitus all of Charlotte, NC; grandson Brad Walker, wife Andrea and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Annie Walker, all of Wilmington, NC; son Cornel Walker and daughter-in-law Jane Stock of Fergus Falls, MN; grandson Stephen Walker, his partner Sarah Nagel and grandchild Brodie Raine Walker of Denton, TX; granddaughter Shannon Walker English and husband Steven English and two great-grandchildren, Walker and Eliza English of Pasadena, TX; step-granddaughter, Maria Steen and step-great-grandson Isaac Steen of Fergus Falls, MN; step-grandson, Charles Steen and wife Sammi and step-great-grandchildren Otis and Olive Steen of Framingham, MA; and many nieces and nephews.

Lynette had two church homes, Laurel Heights United Methodist Church, San Antonio, TX and Pine Valley United Methodist Church, Wilmington, NC. Prior to her death, Lynette wrote the following message:

If you are reading this I have passed away and made it to heaven. I want to thank you all for having such an impact on my life. Please do not grieve but rather celebrate that I was able to have such a long, blessed life with you all. Thank you all for being a part of my life. Love, Nan

Mother did often mention everyone at Randolph and she talked about how sweet you were. She also talked about the 100 Birthday cards she received from everyone at Randolph for her 100th Birthday.

Lynette was born in Navasota, TX and went to school in a 1 room school until she reached junior high school. She graduated from Navasota High School and was in All-State State Choir.. Mother attended and graduated from Southwestern University and obtained her master's in education and counseling at Stephen F. Austin. She is survived by her two sons and 4 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and hundreds of students she helped. Mother loved her interactions with her students.

ANGELUS FUNERAL HOME - SAN ANTONIO Obituary

Troy Joseph Scroggins, 83, passed away on June 26, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born April 26, 1939, the only child of Troy Scroggins and Zuzanna Rakowitz Scroggins in San Antonio. He was the grandson of one of the original Polish settlers of Panna Maria, Texas, and builder of the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Saint Hedwig, Texas. He was very proud of his Polish roots and being from Texas.

Troy Joseph was educated in San Antonio in various schools, spending 9 years in institutions of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. He was attending Seminary to be a priest, but left to care for his ill Mother and didn’t return. He received a B.A. degree in Latin and English and later an M.A. in English from Our Lady of the Lake University. He taught American History, English, and Latin in various public high schools (Randolph, McCollum, Randolph, and Roosevelt), in the San Antonio area for 18 years, 1963-81. Then he worked for AT&T Yellow Pages in various positions for 20 years in San Antonio, Dallas, and Saint Louis. He retired in 2002.

While in San Antonio, he sang in the SA Liederkrantz, a Men’s German Choral. He also liked listening to symphony, concerts, classical music, and opera. On occasion, he translated Latin text in the music for the Dallas Orchestra director. He enjoyed art museums, traveling, reading, genealogy, and history, especially Texas, photography, and taking pictures of courthouses, old buildings, and Catholic churches. He joined the Panna Maria Historical Society and made memorial contributions in honor of his Great Maternal Grandparents.
