Miller G. White, Jr., retired Colonel, USAF passed on peacefully on February 26, 2017. He was born in Macon, GA on March 1, 1923 to Mr. and Mrs. Miller G. White.
At the age of 19 he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps (later the USAF) and flew 51 missions as a B-17 pilot in WW II. After a 31 year career in the military, he and wife Mary retired in San Antonio, TX. He was a true American hero. For the last ten years of his life he suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
A dedicated outdoors man and nature lover, he spent many happy days sailing, hunting and fishing. An avid woodworker, he made furniture, a beautiful cedar strip canoe, an 18 foot dory fishing boat and countless toys and games for grandkids. Miller sang barbershop harmonies with the Chordsmen of San Antonio for many years and served tirelessly as a docent with the San Antonio Zoo for 31 years.
His father Maj. Gen. M.G. White and mother Allie Jeff White are deceased.
Miller is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary, sons Miller III and Bob, sisters Dorothy Bakke and Robin Marlowe, 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the San Antonio Zoo.
