SMSgt. Albert (Jim) Burgoon, U.S.A.F., Retired, age 84, of Schertz passed away July 12, 2008 in Seguin. He was preceded in death by his Wife Harriett L. Burgoon and Son Steve Burgoon. He is survived by his Daughter, Stephany Parker and her Husband Bill Raissle of Bulverde; Sons, Collin Burgoon and his Wife Ylena, Seguin and Kevin Burgoon and his Wife Darlene, Kansas City, MO; Grandchildren, Seth, Corinna, Chanda, Rae and Fae; Great Grandchildren, Antha, Nathan, Hannah, Rowdy, Christopher and Joseph. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 16, 2008 from 5 to 8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. John H. Van Voorhis
Col. John Howard Van Voorhis, USAF (Ret.), age 93, passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. He is predeceased by his father Howard Gould Van Voorhis, his mother Vivian Van Voorhis Sanford, his step-father Earl C. Sanford, and his two sisters Dorothy Dennis and Marilynn Ross. He recently lost his best friend of 85 years, Harmon G. Williams of Ogden, Utah. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jo Rene DeMaio Van Voorhis and his brother-in-law, Morris W. Ross of Petaluma, California. He leaves behind his three children; daughter Cynthia Van Voorhis Allshouse and husband J.D. Bucky Allshouse of Houston; daughter Celia Van Voorhis Barr and husband John H. Barr of Dallas; and son Christopher John van Voorhees. His four grandchildren; Mary Christian Barr (age 19), Chance Christopher Allshouse (age 9), Chandler Van Voorhis Allshouse (age 9), and Channing Dale Allshouse (age 9) will remember their grandfather with great love and affection. Extended family in Ft. Worth, Texas includes Sheila and Jim Pedigo, Louis and Sally Harris, and Ron and Judy Harris. Additional extended family includes Thomas N. Dennis and wife Concha of Denman Island, British Columbia, Michael J. Dennis of Denman Island, British Columbia, and Katherine A. Pond and husband Rick. He will be missed by former law partner and friend Eugene B. Sisk. Also, he leaves special family friends, Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Reed and family. Van, as he was known by family and colleagues, was born on July 4, 1914 in Jackson, Michigan. His date of birth heralded a lifelong commitment to patriotism and service to his country. In his youth, he worked for the United States Forestry Service, living in rustic and isolated locations. His love and respect for the environment was something he valued and instilled in others, throughout his life. His appreciation for learning and the importance of formal education was another lifelong trait. He not only acted on this belief personally, but always encouraged his family, peers, legal staff, and clients to seek higher educational degrees because he knew their value for increasing the opportunities for a better quality of life. Graduating from Ogden High School in 1931, he enrolled in the University of Utah, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Beta Epsilon Chapter, an affiliation that lasted for more than 78 years. While attending Loyola Law School he chose to enlist in the Army when the United States joined the Allies in World War II. He was proud to accept any assignment and traveled across the Atlantic to serve in North Africa and Italy. Upon returning from the war, he was sent to Harvard Business School, and attained the rank of Major before leaving the military to complete his law degree at Southern Methodist University. Shortly after receiving his Doctorate of Jurisprudence and entering private practice in Ft. Worth, Texas, he was recalled to service during the Korean Crisis. He again willingly left the private sector to serve his country, which resulted in a total of 26 years of dedicated military service. Theatres of operations in which he served included Nagoya, Japan; The Pentagon, Washington, D.C.; Headquarters Air Training Command, Randolph Air Force Base; Headquarters Southern Air Command, Panama Canal Zone; and, March Air Force Base, California. One of his most fulfilling and gratifying life accomplishments was his admittance to practice law before the United States Supreme Court which was sponsored in 1958 by Senator Arthur U. Watkins of Utah. Upon retirement as a Colonel from the Staff Judge Advocate USAF, he served as an Assistant District Attorney of Bexar County located in San Antonio, Texas. He began his private law practice in Universal City, Texas in 1971 with Eugene B. Sisk, a friendship and partnership that spanned more than 54 years. In keeping with his strong belief in service to his country and his community, Van served the City of Converse as Mayor (1979-1981), as City Attorney (1982-1984), and finally as Municipal Judge (1984-2002). This service to his community and the City of Converse was for a total of 23 years. He was a member of the State Bar of Texas, the San Antonio Bar Association, and a member of the Air Force Retired Judge Advocates Association. He was also a Charter Member of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. Van loved his wife and children dearly, providing wise counsel and encouragement through difficulties and taking great pride in their accomplishments. He was always a gentleman with graceful effortless manners and a belief in preserving integrity and honor above all else. His departure from the physical world will leave a great void in the lives of all who knew him. Chaplain Col. (Ret.) Steven T. Sill, Wing Chaplain United States Air Force at Randolph Air Force Base, has provided spiritual counseling and support to our family. He made in home visits to meet and pray with Van and our family, which was a comfort to us all. With the gift of his kind manner and time, he facilitated our quest to provide dignity, love, and faith at journey's end. The family recognizes with gratitude the patience, concern, and excellent medical care provided by Dr. Praful Mehta. Dr. Mehta's diligence and encouragement supported the family's efforts to provide the best quality of care, while allowing Van to remain in his home. The family wishes to express their special appreciation to Dr. Christopher A. Bogaev who provided outstanding surgical care and expertise, and with whom there was a rare relationship of shared mutual respect and affection between doctor and patient. The family will forever be grateful to Dr. Bogaev. We also wish to thank Alicia Sweeden, RN, and AMED Community Hospice for their excellent support. Very special thanks are extended to caregivers Mildred Barajas, Isaac M. Dominguez, Vernice Guinn, Lakeeta Johnson, Margaret Jones, Jacki Tribble and Belinda Santillan for their kind and gentle care. In the last year of his life, and especially the final days, Mildred and Isaac demonstrated exceptional loyalty and devotion. Their special gifts and abilities made it possible for Judge Van to remain happy and peaceful in his home and enabled his final wishes to be honored. FRANCES RUTH CAMPBELL, age 86, went into the arms of her Lord on Wednesday, February 6, 2008.

She was born on June 26, 1921 in Swan Pond, Kentucky to parents Edward and Maude Oldham. She spent her childhood years in Creelsboro, Kentucky, a small rural community on the Green River where her father worked as a captain on a river boat. She attended and received her High School Diploma from Jamestown High School in Russell County, Kentucky in 1942.

Soon after high school, she enlisted in the United States Women’s Army Corps in February 1943, proudly serving her country until July 1944.

She met her husband while stationed at Tallahassee, Florida and married him on December 1, 1943 beginning a thirty-one year adventure as a United States Army Sergeant’s and later Air Force officer’s wife.

She had a passion for cooking and sewing (which her daughter did not inherit). She traveled extensively with her husband within the United States and in post-war Europe before and after his retirement from the United States Air Force.

She was active in numerous on-base Air Force volunteer family support organizations and an active member of the Eastern Star. She was named an honorary Kentucky Colonel for her community activities in Somerset, Kentucky where she and her husband settled after his retirement.

They moved to San Antonio in March 2001 and lived at Air Force Village I.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Hollis and her son, Frederick Campbell. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lloyd W. Campbell; daughter, Gloria Gallagher and husband Daniel. She was the proud grand mother to 5 grandchildren, Allison, Mark, Kyle, Kelly and David. Also surviving are 9 great-grandchildren, Stephen, Cole, Mason, Chase, Makenna, Hanul, Dylan, Tony and Summer and many many life long friends.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and patriot and a true hero of our great nation. Fran is one of the solid people who made this country what it is. I know you will be missed and I want to thank you for your service and your love to all. May you rest in God’s Love forever.

A graveside service was held at 9:45 A.M. Monday, February 11, 2008 at Fort Sam National Cemetery with Military Honors. Slightly windy, threatening raindrops
Just as I watched Gary place the many
Walkers on the bus for those who are
Unable to walk alone. One by one we
Stepped up, found a seat. Some of us
Laughed nervously while others busied
Themselves trying to find two ends
for fastening the seat belts.
Just over twenty of us, honoring this
Day, your final one, in the only way
We knew how.

Bill was resplendent in his uniform,
Gloria held his arm steering him to
Front row seating for your family.
Most of us stood beneath the portico
There amid the thousands of small
Grey - markers at Ft. Sam Houston's cemetery.
We were prepared for the ceremonial
Volley of shots, then quietly we
Observed as two young soldiers wearing
White gloves, lifted the American

Myrnavae Barkley Baumgardner of San Antonio passed away on December 31, 2007, after a courageous 33-year battle with Parkinson's. She was born in Matador, Texas on May 4, 1922. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Lillian Barkley; brother, Matthew; and her Aunts Rachel Patton, Opal Craven, and Bertha Stearns, all of Matador. Her survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Colonel (USAF ret) Haynes M. Baumgardner; son, Colonel (USAF ret) Haynes M. Baumgardner, Jr. and his wife Cheryl, and their children; daughter Natalie; son Trey and his wife, Lou; son, Jan and his wife, Liz and their children; son Blake and daughter Brandy Severance and husband Duane; and her brother, Tex Barkley and his wife, Eva of Matador. She is also survived by 2 great-grandchildren, Salem and Seth Severance. Mrs. Baumgardner received her teaching degree from Texas Tech in 1944 and was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught in Texas, Virginia, and Japan. She also earned her Broker's certificate and together with her husband owned and managed Matador Realtors in Lubbock for many years. She was active with the Boy Scouts of America as well as being actively involved as a Sunday school teacher. She had resided at the Army Residence Community for the past ten years. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2008 from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home located on Kitty Hawk Rd. Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 4, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Reverend Carroll Perry officiating. George W. McClughan, Jr., age 54, passed away in Austin, TX on Sunday, August 4, 2002. He graduated from Randolph High School and the University of Texas in Austin. He was actively involved in documentary film creation, direction and production. A lover of animals, he operated a pet care business. He was an avid sports fan. Also a humorist, George was instrumental in the development and production of Austin's annual "Pun Off'' which drew contestants nationwide. Jon Marion Goodfleisch, 57, of Austin, Texas, beloved husband, father, brother and son, died unexpectedly of complications from surgery in Dallas, TX, on May 14, 2004. He was a Development Manager with Dell Computer Inc. Jon was born December 22, 1946, in Berea, Ohio, to Colonel Don Marion and Lillian Margaret ``Peggy' Ray Goodfleisch. Growing up, Jon's family lived in many locations around the globe. After graduation from High School at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, he served four years with the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service, Jon attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1978. Married to Terri Westbrook in May 1983, they had two lovely daughters, Marlene and Margeaux. They later divorced and he married Annette Marie Kobus in Georgetown, TX, on February 15, 2002. Jon was devoted to his family, had a great sense of humor and was a loyal friend to all who knew him. He was a champion and a mentor for his daughters, his nieces and nephews, and his sisters. Jon had an impeccable work ethic and enjoyed solving problems with his creative, inventive mind. He enjoyed playing and watching golf. He loved his country and was always ready for another road trip. His amazing love, wit, generous nature, sense of adventure and technical acumen will be missed by his family, friends, and colleagues. Jon was preceded in death by his twin brother Don; his parents; and his brother-in-law, Wink Whitehouse. Surviving Jon are: his wife, Annette; daughters, Marlene and Margeaux Goodfleisch; stepdaughters, Michelle Arnone and her husband, Charles, Cindy and Mindy Jern, all of Austin; sisters, Jo Interrante of Dallas, Gretchen Reed of Austin and Leigh Sebera and her husband, Travis of Dripping Springs. Also surviving Jon are his stepmother, Thelma Goodfleisch of San Antonio, and her seven children; nephews, Christopher Interrante and his wife, Stacy of Dallas, and John Robert Reed of Austin as well as nieces, Keith Interrante and her husband, Mark Komater of San Francisco, California, and Bridgette Reed of Los Angeles, California. A Memorial Service to celebrate Jon's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Weed- Corley-Fish Chapel. Robert Max "Bobby" Geisler

Robert Max (Bobby) Geisler died Friday, April 18, 2003 after a brief illness. He was born on June 1, 1926 in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Arthur and Thekla Geisler. He served in the United States Navy, and graduated from Trinity University with a Bachelor of Music Degree and Master's Degree in Administrative Education. He had his own dance band for thirteen years, and has been principal trumpet with the San Antonio Symphony. Geisler was band director at Kenedy, South San Antonio, Burbank, Randolph and Roosevelt High Schools (where his bands were consistent U.I.L. "Sweepstakes" winners), and principal at Randolph Elementary and Churchill High Schools. He was a charter member of Texas Bandmasters Association and became its president in 1962. He was elected to the American School Band Directors Association in 1961 and to the Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame in 1992. Geisler was Educational Director of Southern Music Company, and has had published over seventy compositions for band and solo instruments. He was a Deacon at Trinity Baptist Church and The Fellowship of San Antonio. Bobby Geisler is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Ann, two sons, Robert Michael and Daniel Mark, granddaughter, Lilla Kathleen, brother, Arthur, and brother- and sister-in-law, Eugene Howard and Mary Duane Dawson. Our cherished wife and mother, Lynne Walker, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, November 24, 2007, following a life of love and laughter. Lynne was born on March 15, 1948, to Mary Mandeville Rakestraw and Major John William Rakestraw. After graduating from Schertz-Cibolo High School (Class of '67), Lynne joyously embraced motherhood and family with her beloved husband Cornel, raising her children, John Koch and Laura Koch Matula, and his children, Stephen Walker and Shannon Walker. Lynne was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and served her Lord through a generous spirit shared with all she met. Lynne was predeceased by her parents and her infant grandson, Jack Cook. ALFRED R. AGUIRRE - Faculty - 3/2/2003

Alfred R. Aguirre went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 2, 2003 at the age of 68. He was born in San Marcos, TX on July 29, 1934 to parents, Fred and Mary Aguirre. He was a loving son, husband and uncle. He attended Southwest Texas State University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree and a Masters in Chemistry from the Incarnate Word University. He taught Honor's Chemistry classes at Randolph High School and Judson High School. He taught high school chemistry for 36 years. During this time, he served as Department Chairman at Randolph High School and, later, at Judson High School. He served as president of the Judson Teachers Association and as State President of Texas State Science Teachers Association. He also taught photography classes at San Antonio College for 16 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Lila Aguirre; mother, Mary Aguirre; sister-in-law, Henrietta Fernandez and her husband Edward; brother-in-law, Robert Gamez and his wife Lillie; nephew, John Fernandez, his wife Lupita and their sons, Joel and Jacob; nephew, George Fernandez, his wife Sandra and their sons, Edward and John; aunts, Ofelia Prado and Cherry Aguirre and numerous cousins. Col. (Ret.) H.D. Buck Allshouse, age 84, passed away on December 17, 2007 after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He is predeceased by his mother Elsie J. Allshouse, his father Herman H. Allshouse, his brother Gary Allshouse, his sisters Verna Brooks and Minnie Allshouse, and his wife of 51 years, Rita Mae "Sweeta" Allshouse. He is survived by his four children: daughter Carol J. McDougall and husband Thomas J. McDougall of Friendswood, Texas; son J.D. Bucky Allshouse and wife Cynthia Van Voorhis Allshouse of Houston, Texas; son John H. Allshouse, and daughter Linda R. Allshouse, both of San Antonio, Texas. His six grandchildren, Kimberly McDougall Koehn (age 29), Michael J. McDougall (age 27), Lindsey Allshouse (age 17), Chance Christopher Allshouse (age 8), Chandler Van Voorhis Allshouse (age 8), and Channing Dale Allshouse (age 8), will forever benefit not only from the love that they received from their beloved "Pap Pap", but also from being in the presence of a man of such great honor and integrity. Extended family in Ohio includes brother-in-law Tommy Hoffman and wife Libby Hoffman, Dianne Touchberry and husband Tommy, Patsy Haddix and her husband Rick; and niece Bonnie Gurzenda and her husband Wally of Somerset, Pennsylvania, niece Jan Barnett, niece Kitty Crosby and nephew Gary Crosby, sister-in-law Irma Lee Bibby. He also leaves behind many friends including Clare Trabun, his loving companion of seven years of Spokane, Washington and her beautiful family: Steve Trabun and his wife Dana and their children, Kayla, Taylor, Lindsay; and Mike Trabun and his wife Christy and their children, Matt and Brian. He enlisted in the Army in December of 1942 and was a ball turret gunner with the 331st Sqd 94th Bomb Group 8th Air Force out of Bury St. Edmonds, England. He flew 35 dangerous missions on the B-17 "Stormy Weather" during World War II. Upon his return from the war, he enrolled in Dusquesne University and received his degree in Commerce and Foreign Trade and was a distinguished military graduate and received his regular commission as a 2/Lt. in the United States Air Force in August of 1949. Buck was an outstanding military officer and leader. In addition to flying as a ball turret gunner in World War II, he flew 39 missions in the Korean Crisis in an F84E with the 429th Fighter Squadron in Kunsan, Korea and flew 174 missions during the Vietnam war flying O-1 Birddogs. In addition, he served as the Squadron Commander of Instrument Pilot Instructor School at Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and the Wing Commander of the 3636 Combat Crew Training Wing (Survival) at Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington. His skill and expertise as a fighter pilot were of the highest order. He faced danger and death many times in all three wars, repeatedly demonstrating courage, bravery, and the unique ability to lead others in circumstances that only those who have fought and survived war know. He never failed to answer the call to defend and protect the country he loved with honor, pride and courage. Buck's prowess as a fighter pilot and a true warrior are legendary, and we, his family, are proud of his extraordinary service to our country. Obituary: Kindhearted Allshouse flew missions in three wars

Even the mailman cried.

Retired Air Force Col. H.D. Buck Allshouse was a courageous leader and fighter pilot who flew in hundreds of dangerous missions during three wars. He was proud, but humble.
Garbage collectors knew that an ice chest of soft drinks would be waiting for them each day at his Northeast Side home. Allshouse made sure to speak to the mailman each day, and this week, when the mailman found out that Allshouse had died, he stood in the front yard and wept.
Allshouse died Monday at 84 after a brief illness.

He was dedicated to his family. Each day that Allshouse was at war, he wrote a letter to his wife and each child.

When his sons were on the high school football team and Allshouse was serving in Vietnam, he drove in hostile territory to another base to retrieve film of the games that were mailed to him.
"He was a very successful and dedicated military officer, but his ability to show kindness and love for everyone he met is what he was known for. He never met a person that he didn't talk to or smile at," said Allshouse's son John.

Allshouse enlisted in the Army in 1942 and flew as a ball turret gunner in World War II. He flew missions in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He also served as the squadron commander of the instrument pilot instructor school at Randolph AFB and the wing commander at Fairchild AFB, Washington.

Allshouse, known as "Pap Pap" to his grandchildren, also had a sense of humor.
He once wrote, "I enjoyed every one of the 32 years, 10 months, nine hours, 24 minutes and eight seconds of duty, and I would still be there if it were still possible, but doing Desert Storm via the living room TV wasn't all that bad."

In an online guestbook, Jack Bibby of Dawson, Penn., said his Uncle Buck had a "heart made of gold."

"If it was not for Aunt Rita and Uncle Buck, we would not have had a Christmas when we were kids. Don't think that we forgot because we did not," Bibby wrote. "Our hearts are with you."

Steven Gilbert Burgoon went to be with the Lord December 4, 2007 at the age of 61 in San Antonio, Texas. Steven was born October 16, 1946 to Albert and Harriett Burgoon in Slayton, MN. Steven served his country during the Vietnam War and he received his degree from Texas A&M. Steven is survived by his father: Albert Burgoon of Schertz; Brothers: Collin and his wife Ylena Burgoon of Seguin, Texas and Kevin and his wife Darlene Burgoon of Missouri; sister: Stephany Parker and her husband Bill Raissle of Bulverde, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard Frederick Robinson, 61, of Fayetteville passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, in Fayetteville. He was born Sept. 26, 1946, in Long Beach, Calif., to Fellie Fred Robinson and Laverne Hinkle Robinson. He was retired from the veterans administration as a hospital administrator, having served at the Fayetteville Veterans Affairs Medical Center from 1990-1999, and has been the director of pharmacy for Harps Food Stores since 2000. He was a U. S. Army veteran, a member of The Gideons International and a member of Fellowship Bible Church in Springdale.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Parko Robinson; his father, Fellie Fred Robinson of Apple Valley, Calif.; two sons, Matthew Robinson and wife Breon of Fayetteville and Nathan Robinson and wife Cherry of Springdale; three daughters, Amy Schwartz and husband Bernie of Los Angeles, Rebecca McNeill and husband Nick of Little Rock, and Laura Boen and husband John of Lincoln, England; two sisters, Judi Collins and husband Bill of Apple Valley, Calif., and Virginia Robinson of Redlands, Calif.; one brother, Mark Robinson of Hartford, Ala.; and two granddaughters, Sarah Juliane Schwartz and Madeline Frances McNeill.

John Landis Hartig II, was born April 25, 1947, in Albuquerque, N.M., to Monte Baldwin Hartig and John Landis Hartig. He was an “Air Force Brat” and spent much of his young years over seas including in Turkey and Europe. He returned to San Antonio, Texas in his second year of high school to continue his education at the brand new Randolph High School, Randolph AFB, Texas.

He lead the first Rohawk basketball team as team captain to the state tournament.
















He continued his education at Southwestern University where he played basketball the full four years and earned a double major in chemistry and business.

He then graduated from Trinity University with an master of business administration degree in hospital administration. He was employed as hospital administrator at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

In 1979 he started Centre Court Homes.

In 2002, John lead the creation of a non-profit basketball program known as the Boerne Air for his son and other area children to grow up and develop their skills in his beloved sport. John committed his life to helping young basketball players strive to improve their skills and achieve their goals. This passion and care is what drove the team each year.

He is survived by his children Lisa Anne Hartig and Brett Justin Hartig; his ex-wife and friend, Janice Jordan; his sister, Lee Hartig Hoover; his nephew, Landis Joseph Hartig; his aunt, Ann Hannig; and countless young men and women whose lives he has touched.

After putting up his greatest fight of all against cancer, John peacefully passed on to God on Sept. 30, 2007, with children and family by his side. We wish to thank Dr. Brian Treuhaft, Dr. Vijay Gunuganti and Vitas Hospice.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 11a.m. at Vaughan's Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Boerne Cemetery.

Joanna passed away on July 25, 2006 at home with her family after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She is survived by her mother, Henrietta B. Dyas of Mobile, Alabama, her husband of almost 35 years, Butch of Georgetown, her daughter, Captain Melissa Stone and her husband Major Adam Stone of San Angelo, Texas, her daughter Dr. Jody Smith and her fiancé John Boydston of Denver, Colorado, a sister, Judi Dyas Wells of Mobile, Alabama, and three nephews. She is also survived by her special best friend and sister-in-law, Judie Patterson of Georgetown, Texas. The family appreciates Judie’s many years of compassionate care and friendship.

Joanna was born on March 29, 1947 in Newport News, Virginia to Brigadier General and Mrs John R. Dyas. Joanna was a graduate of Randolph AFB High School, Incarnate Word College and also received her Administrator’s Certificate and a Master’s in Special Education from Southwest Texas State University. She also attended colleges at the American College in Paris, France; Auburn University, Texas University, and Huntingdon College. Joanna was an Air Force “Brat” and had the opportunity to live overseas in Peru, Germany and France.

She met her husband, Butch Smith at Randolph AFB in San Antonio, Texas where they were married in September, 1970. They were stationed overseas in Germany, and stateside in Mississippi, Alabama, Colorado, Nebraska, Washington D.C., Maryland and Texas where they made many life long friends. She was extremely proud of being an Air Force Brat and Air Force wife.

Joanna loved being a Special Education teacher and director and working with these children and young adults. She was a very compassionate person. Compassionate about her special kids and compassionate about her family and friends.

She absolutely adored her two daughters.

Joanna was preceded in death by her brother, John Robert Dyas Jr. and her father, Brigadier General John Robert Dyas.

Burial will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 28. The family will have two memorial services. The first will be at Florence High School Commons at 4:00 pm, Sunday, July 30 in Florence, Texas. A second memorial service will be held at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Mobile, Alabama at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 1.

Lt. Col. John Stampley, USAF (Ret.) age 58, passed away August 20, 2007. John was born March 21, 1949 in Bellville, Illinois to Jack and Raye Stampley. John graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1972 and earned his masters degree from Emery Riddle University in 1984. In 1975, John was commissioned as an officer in the Air Force where he served as a navigator flying C-141s and Command pilot flying C-130s and T-39s. John retired from the Air Force in 2000 as Director of Air Force Life Support Systems. He went on to work for SAIC until retirement in 2005. In retirement, he divided his time between San Antonio, TX and Amagansett, NY. John loved fishing and dreaming of new projects and adventures. John is survived by his loving wife Carolynn; son Jonathan, son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Vicki Stampley; grandson Oliver, brother and sister-in-law, Mike & Rae Stampley; nephew Stephen, sister Suzanne, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Leisa and Bill Perry; niece Isabella and mother-in-law Maurine Little. Ret. M/Sgt. Peter Smiljanich - Father of Terry Smiljanich

My dad passed away last week - Ret. M/Sgt. Peter Smiljanich. He was just a few days shy of his 90th birthday and was fairly healthy until the very end - stubborn as a mule but willing to do anything for you. He died peacefully in his apartment in Cedar Park, TX, with his wife, three adopted children, four grandkids, and a brand new great-granddaughter (one week old) at his side. He was buried this week at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery just south of Killeen, with full military honors by an Air Force color guard from Randolph. It was the saddest "Taps" I ever heard played. Dad was part of the "Greatest Generation." A life time of service in the military, six bronze stars, a purple heart, two air medals and a Presidential Unit Citation for his actions as a B-26 tail gunner over German and occupied France, service in Japan during the Korean War, and stationed just outside the Soviet Union at a Turkish air base during the Cold War. The man in charge of the veteran's cemetery told me that the WWII generation is dying at the rate of 1800 per day. In my dad's old bomber squadron, he was only one of three still alive.Not a bad life for a guy who dropped out of high school and rode the rails during the Depression before joining the Army Air Corps in January, 1941 (11 months before Pearl Harbor).

Let's never forget the sacrifices of our parent's generation.

Dear Gloria,

It is with sadness that I write to tell you that our mother, Mary Ellen Thomas "Tommie" Moorhead passed away on February 1, 2007 at the age of 88. We will miss her very much. Her husband and our father, Lt Col. Jesse J. Moorhead Sr. passed away almost seven years ago on October 18, 2000.
