Roselyn Lindley (Jeff Lindley's Mom)

Roselyn McCord Lindley.

With heavy hearts, the Memorials Foundation and the Heritage Association announce the passing of Roselyn Lindley on 2 June 2017 in New Braunfels, TX, at age 97. Roselyn was the Widow of William “Bill” Lindley, Jr., 412th pilot and 334th squadron commander.

Roselyn was born in Sikeston, MO, on 11 September 1919. She moved to Tupelo, MS, when in elementary school. As Roselyn’s obituary reads, “After graduating from high school she attended the University of Mississippi, graduating in 1941.

“During her senior year, she met Bill Lindley, a Mississippi State graduate, and they became a devoted couple.

“While Bill was earning his pilot wings and serving his country in WWII, Roselyn became an airline stewardess for Chicago and Southern Airlines.

“After returning from England, Bill and Roselyn were married on December 29, 1944.

“While traveling from base to base with Bill, she raised three sons. Of her many homes, she particularly enjoyed the three-year stay in Vicenza, Italy.

“As wife of a senior officer, she was a member of the Military Civilian Club of San Antonio as well as the Officer’s Spouses Clubs at Randolph and Williams Air Force Base in Arizona.

“Retirement gave Roselyn the opportunity of boundless golf and travel. With two close friends, she toured the West Coast and found time to visit Shanghai, South Korea, and Australia. Roselyn was an avid golfer, belonging to the San Antonio Women’s Golf Association, and an original member of the Windcrest Women’s Golf Group. She was especially proud of her 4 holes-in-one. She continued to play golf until she was 90. She played bridge with a number of women’s groups.

“Roselyn is preceded in death by her parents James Edmund McCord and Rose Craven McCord; her brothers Pete and Bill; her daughter in law Marty Lindley; numerous dear friends; and her loving husband Bill of almost 72 years.

“She is survived by her sons Bill and wife Donna of Carlsbad, CA, Jeff of New Braunfels, and Jon and wife Nancy of New Braunfels. Grandchildren (and spouses) include Jessica Lindley, April (Dennis) Nelson, Kris (Shavon) Lindley, Camarin (Joe) Faddis, Claire (Barry) Compton, and Matthew Lindley. Great-grandchildren: Lindley Spencer, Amanda and Everett Nelson, and Raya Rose Lindley.

“She will also be missed by her sister-in-law Ouida Lindley; cousins Roger and Mary Ellen Bailley; niece Scottie Russ; and dear friend Willa Parnell.

“The family wishes to thank the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living, Brookdale Hospice, and Roselyn’s care sitter Morgan for all their devotion to Mom. We will miss her smiles, laughter, wit and unconditional love. There will be a private service at a later date.”

The passing of the beloved spouse of one of the 95th’s legendary figures is sad news. There is comfort in knowing that, to borrow daughter-in-law Nancy’s words, Roselyn “and Pop are now together again.”

Our sincerest condolences to Nancy, Jon, and all the Lindley family.
