MARGARET ELIZABETH (BETTY) STURROCK - 1919-2018
Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) Sturrock, most recently of Austin, Texas, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018, surrounded by loved ones. She was 99 years young.
Elizabeth was born on June 28, 1919 in Emhouse, Texas to the late Georgie Willie Adams and William Rufus Hall. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Parten Sturrock, her sister, Robinel Hall Naber and brother-in-law, Richard Naber of Niceville, Florida.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Linda Susan Sturrock Anderson of San Antonio, Texas; Janice Lynn Sturrock and her husband Steve McKee of Austin, Texas; and William Parten (Bill) Sturrock Jr and his wife Sue Sturrock of Rosebud, Texas. Beloved grandsons: Tray Anderson and fiancée Glenn Pellas of Houston, Texas, Eugene McKee of New York City, New York and Ryan McCalip of Benbrook, Texas. Nieces Linda Augustin and family and Alice Hagans and family of Niceville, Florida. Great grandchildren; Rebecca Anderson, Tray Anderson Jr and Sevlynne Anderson of Dallas, Texas.
As a young girl, Elizabeth lived in the Texas towns of Slaton, Lubbock and San Angelo where she remembered swimming in the river south of town near Cristobol. Eventually moving with her family to Houston, Elizabeth graduated from Reagan High School in 1936. Elizabeth met Bill (William Parten) Sturrock at Singer Sewing Machine Company and married him on August 24, 1946. Bill and Elizabeth had 3 children; Sue, Janice and Billy.
Elizabeth lived most of her life in Texas. After she and Bill married, she lived the life of an Air Force wife and moved her family from Ellington Air Force Base in Houston, Texas to Edwards Air Force Base in California and onto Izmir, Turkey. She was passionate about expanding the horizons of her kids and while in Turkey, the family spent many weekends visiting beautiful beaches and exploring rich history of old world cities. In 1963, Bill was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Elizabeth continued to raise her 3 children and worked at Randolph as a Federal Civil Service employee from 1967-1985. She received many outstanding work commendations for her great attention to detail and creative suggestions for more efficiency in the work place.
Known as Elizabeth to family and Betty to coworkers, friends and fellow crafters. She retired from Civil Service in 1985 and devoted full time to her many hobbies including ceramics, crochet, knitting, counted cross stitch, quilting and other handcrafts. She owned 2 craft shops in the Universal City area: "Homesteader's Corner" and "The Talent Tree". She was a founding member of the Homesteaders Craft Guild of Universal City in 1986 and enjoyed trips around Central Texas to quilting and craft shops. She never met a piece of fabric that she did not like.
Betty was a creative talent her entire life; an excellent seamstress who made most of her own clothes and clothes for her 3 children when they were young. She was always pursuing new creative and artistic outlets and excelled at all of them.

She loved her children and her large extended family of aunts, uncles and many cousins. She was a great cook and excellent baker making many tasty cakes and cookies for most any occasion. She loved making candies and cookies at Christmas time and loved decorating her house for that time of year.
She took great pride in her physical appearance, taking care to wear matching outfits and "fixing her face" daily with eyebrow pencil, rouge and always lipstick.
She enjoyed watching sports and always rooted for the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs.
Elizabeth will be remembered for many things including being a loving, kind and giving daughter, mother and grandmother who loved her "kids", her grandkids and her parents dearly. We will miss her dry sense of humor, her fierce independence and her sweet blue eyes.

The family would like to thank the staff of Grace House of Lake Travis for their compassionate care and love of Betty these last years; the kind and attentive health care providers at Visiting Physicians Association and care and assistance from the staff at Guiding Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Monday, August 6 at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis, 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, Texas.
A short graveside service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on Tuesday, August 7 at 2:30 pm.
