Mr. Ro-Hawk 1964 |
William Borellis
William Kirk (Bill) Borellis passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 1, 1946, to William Francis and Mary Eileen Simon Borellis.
Bill’s early life involved traveling with his Air Force family to many parts of the world. His family came home often to visit beloved relatives in Pittsburgh. He excelled at many sports and was a high school All-American basketball player at Randolph Air Force Base High School (Class of 1964) near San Antonio, Texas. Recruited by almost every college in the United States, he played basketball at the University of Pittsburgh and Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. He loved golf and excelled in many city tournaments.
During his life Bill worked with a variety of organizations, including profit and non-profit entities. In addition to being a self-employed insurance agent, he worked as Director of Cross Marketing and National Sales Manager for a multi-national insurance company, and as a consultant for the Los Angeles School District. He served as a Benefits Counselor for the Alamo Area Council of Governments, as a marketing/recruiting and training manager for the US Census Bureau, and a Work Incentive Coordinator (CWIC) for San Antonio Independent Living Services.
Bill had a deep love for family and heritage. He kept in close touch with aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and lifelong friends. He cherished every moment he spent with family. His cards, sent to hundreds of people, were appreciated for his love, sense of humor and sincerity.
A devout Catholic, he felt blessed serve as a Eucharistic Minister in the Catholic Church, serving at Mass and to people at home and in nursing homes. He was also active and deeply appreciated for his contributions to the Episcopal and Catholic Cursillo ministries.
Bill is survived by his wife Janet Watkins Jendron, sister Sherry Layne, children Jade Tacheny, Rachel Smith, Jared Borellis, Kathleen Labarowski, Trip Jendron, Danny Jendron and Claudia Shaffer, nephews Chad and Trevor Layne, and grandchildren Mary Grace, Athena, Lincoln, Jane, Grayson, Aurora, Hudson, Robbie, Luna, Beck and Lizzy.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 605 Polo Rd, Columbia, SC 29223. Interment will follow the service, as well as a reception.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice. A few favorites of Bill’s were the Alzheimer’s Foundation, Nurturings.org, Cursillo of the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina, and Wounded Warriors.
